$16 Million Expansion Planned for JW Marriott Hill Country Resort

JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa will spend about $16 million to enlarge its River Bluff Water Experience and to expand convention and meeting space, according to reports.  Officials at JW Marriott San Antonio said the continued interest by large crowds in the offerings around the 5-year-old resort, located in the far North Side of town, compelled them to reinvest in their key draws. River Bluff Water Experience, in particular, is said to be drawing attendance figures above what the hotel company had expected.

The expansion project, which is scheduled for completion by spring 2016, will include the construction of a new water slide attraction and pool. The park will also add more cabana and relaxation areas, among other features.  Once completed, JW Marriott will have extra capacity to host more groups and meetings. The project will include the development of a 9,000-square-foot pavilion that will house new meeting and conference space, as well as a large activity field and entertainment stage.

The $16 million project will include an increase in size to the six-acre water park, featuring an additional pool, spa, cabanas, two water slides, lounge chair seating and artificial turf lawn space. Construction is scheduled to start this September for completion next spring.  Company officials said the new design will enhance the River Bluff Water Experience by putting in a beach entry swimming pool and two new body slides, one with a 60-foot drop.  Another 230 poolside lounge chairs, a sand beach and shady overhangs will help to create a relaxing vacation experience for families and corporate guests alike, Marriott officials said. Several cabanas available to reserve will be added around the new pool area.  Construction will not interfere with operations at the existing River Bluff Water Experience. Guests will keep enjoying a beach-entry large activity pool, a children’s pool with toddler-size slides, a restorative adult pool with an infinity edge overlooking Hill Country vistas, hot and cold plunge pools and whirlpools. The resort’s water features are heated during the fall and winter for year-round enjoyment, officials added.  JW Marriott will also relocate a practice area for golfers to another area of the property to accommodate the expansion.
