The city’s Historic Design Review Committee gave conceptual approval for Hemisfair’s first phase of residential development earlier this month. The 150-unit apartment complex at Hemisfair, Acequia Lofts, is being led by David Adelman of AREA Real Estate. His plan calls for a 415-space parking garage next to Yanaguana Park. Lake|Flato architects are handling the design. The apartment complex site plan seeks to have pedestrian circulation connects with other pedestrian ways around Hemisfair. The parking garage will be partially wrapped, with residential and commercial spaces to the north, west and east of the facility at street level, and to the north and west of it above street level.
Hemisfair is undergoing a phased redevelopment that includes space for retail, residential and recreational activities. Yanaguana Garden, a playscape, opened the public months ago as the first part of redevelopment. The project will go back to the commission for final design approval and is expected to break ground in 2017.
