PROJECT UPDATE: I-10 Improvements

Last week initiated a year-long piece of the I-10 improvements currently under construction between Loop 1604 and Huebner Road.  Crews removed the eastbound bridge at De Zavala.  It will take six months for them to re-build the eastbound, at which point traffic will be diverted to the new bridge and the westbound bridge will be torn down for another six-month overhaul.  The bridge will ultimately be taller, wider, and longer.  In addition, during the overpass construction, the turn-arounds in both directions will be closed.

The overall corridor improvement spans 3.9 miles.  In attempt to alleviate congestion from the more than 200,00 vehicles per day on this stretch of I-10, Improvements include adding one lane in each direction, the addition of a turnaround west of UTSA Blvd, and modifying the DeZavala Rd exit.  The project is estimated to be $44 million and is expected to be complete in mid-2015.
