PROPOSED: The Maverick Building Re-Envisioned

Local real estate developer, David Adelman (AREA Real Estate) announced recently the acquisition of The Maverick building on Houston St. downtown. The Maverick was built in 1921 as an office building with storefronts on Houston and even a barbershop in the basement. In 1996 the building was converted to low-income housing.

Plans for the nine-story building include restoring the ground floor retail space, ideal for a restaurant with patio seating on Houston with views of the Tobin Center. The eight stories of residential units will be fully updated, but will keep the existing floor plans, which range from studios to two bedrooms.

The building will have new mechanical and HVAC systems and SMART technologies with many new energy and water conservation methods employed.
