Hausman Road improvements are 6 months underway. Construction began in December of 2013 and the project is expected to be complete by summer 2015. When complete, the roadway will be expanded to 4 lanes from 1604 to IH-10, two lanes in each direction with grassy medians.
Side walk improvements along the north side of the road, 10’ concrete hike and bike trails connecting to the Leon Creek Greenway along the south side of the road, new driveway approaches, as well as drainage improvements are also planned. Currently, new water lines, installation of new power poles, trenching and excavation for gas and sewer mains, and AT&T duct bank installation are on-going.
Of the $60.1 million budget for the 3.5 miles of improvements, $15.8 million came from Bexar County with the remaining coming from past City Bonds. The project is being coordinated by the City of San Antonio’s Capital Improvements Management System, engineered by URS, and built by Sundt Construction.
The highly trafficked connector between IH-10 and 1604 should see significant relief once complete. As UTSA continues to grow, specifically with the construction of their Park West athletic complex and more residential development along the corridor, these improvements should ease congestion from future growth.
